Laser Vision Correction

Laser Vision Correction

Laser Vision Correction is a group of procedures characterized by the process of changing the shape of the cornea which leads to a change in the prescription of the eye.  The process is designed to reduce or eliminiate the need for glasses or contact lenses.  LASIK is the most common form of laser vision correction.  PRK is the second most common.  LASEK is a variation of PRK.  With LASIK, laser vision correction, the cornea is split and the top third is lifted out of the way and the laser is applied to the remaining 2/3 of the substance of the cornea (stroma).  With PRK, the surface cells are removed and the laser applied directly to the superficial stroma.  With LASEK the surface cells are moved aside and the laser applied and the cells are then put back in position and securred temporarily with a contact lens
