Unfortunately trauma or surgery can result in iris defects. These defects can cause sensitivity to bright lights, double vision, glare and visual disability.
Repairs are possible but have the potential for complications in inexperienced hands. Complications can cause an iridodialysis, hemorrage, further damage, or distortion or unwanted visual phenomenena.
This is an example of a recent patient that underwent cataract surgery elsewhere and complained of disabling symptoms presumably due to the iris defect.
The patient noted resolution of his symptoms after the repair.
