A cataract is a visually significant opacification of the lens. It is often related to aging but can be related to trauma, diabetes, steroid use or other medications. Although cataracts are not thought to be reversible, by using sunglasses, controlling diabetes, and quitting smoking, your cataracts can often be stabilized. In most cases cataract surgery will be necessary when you are no longer able to perform your desired daily activities due to the changes in the lens in your eye. In the early stages, glasses may be changed to help, but not reverse cataracts.
Cataract treatment is a 10-minute outpatient procedure in skilled hands. When medically necessary, it is covered by insurance. We accept most insurance plans and as Dr. Malitz owns Red Rock Surgery Center, he can often help control the facility costs as well! For patients with high deductible plans, cash options are sometimes a better option to minimize out-of-pocket costs.
