Diabetic Eye Care in Las Vegas

The Diabetes Eye Treatment Center

The Diabetes Eye Treatment Center at Southwest Eye Institute offers a comprehensive program which includes outpatient diabetes eye care, education and treatment. Our staff offers links to other specialists including endocrinologists, podiatrists, wound care specialists, retina specialists, nutrition specialists and primary care physicians who work in partnership with us and share a common goal — to help those diagnosed with diabetes lead longer, healthier lives and maintain normal vision for a lifetime. To that end, the Diabetes Eye Treatment Center offers a wide range of services. Our services are available in both English and Spanish. For more information contact us at 702-362-3900 or speak with your healthcare provider and request a referral for your annual comprehensive diabetic eye exam.  We will send a report to your physician concerning your eye health and recommendations for the future to preserve your most precious sense, the sense of sight.
When you arrive, please prepare to be dilated.  If possible bring a log of your blood sugars or your most recent HgA1c.   If you don’t know what this is, ask your primary care doctor.  If you don’t have a primary care doctor, or this information, please let us know and we would be happy to refer you to a primary care provider that takes your insurance and is experienced with diabetes treatment.   Best diabetes eye care  requires annual visits to Southwest Eye Institute and most insurance companies cover the service.  We are on most insurance plans and if not, we would still be happy to see you on a fee for service basis.

Call 702-362-3900 for a diabetic eye exam.

Who Can Benefit?
The diabetic eyecenter is an excellent resource for adults and children with all types of diabetes.  Whether you have type one or type two diabetes or if you take insulin or oral agents, we are prepared and available to assume your diabetic eye care.

Consequences of Diabetic Eye Disease

Diabetes remains the leading cause of preventable blindness in the working aged population.  Diabetes is associated with glaucoma (we will screen for this as well), cataracts and corneal problems.   All diabetics should get a baseline exam and at least one exam each year if there is no diabetic damage and if your blood sugar is stable.  With fluctuations in your blood sugar, the lens in your eye can swell or shrink leading to fluctuations in your vision and prescription and blurred vison.   Don’t wait for your exam, we can make you a temporary pair of glasses and when your blood sugar and eyeglass prescription stabilizes we can remake your glasses for free!

Take Control
Today, diabetes can’t be cured, but it can be controlled. Our patients, even those who have had diabetes for years, are discovering new ways to live a better life with diabetes.  We cannot make the appointment for you, you need to contact our office.   Just call 702-362-3900 or email diabeticeyeexam@lasikhomepage.com with the subject, eye exam.
