Intacs

IntacsIntacs are clear, corneal ring inserts originally developed by KeraVision. Itacs corneal ring surgery has largely went by the wayside for refractive surgery.  When LASIK is not an option, due to a warpage of the cornea, Intacs can be used.  . When placed between the layers of corneal tissue, they cause the central cornea to flatten, correcting mild nearsightedness. Intacs reshape the curvature of the cornea from within, working with the natural shape of the eye. With Intacs, no tissue is permanently removed from the cornea.

They add support especially to corneas that have been weakened by a condition called keratoconus. They may make the corneal curvature so regular that patients with mild to moderate keratoconus may be able to delay wearing hard contact lenses or even corneal transplant surgery.

Intacs are clear, micro-thin prescription inserts made of biocompatible plastic. Intacs cannot be felt, are no more visible than a contact lens and require no maintenance. With Intacs, many people actually see better than 20/20. They are the result of over a decade of clinical research and have been available worldwide for several years.
